Policy regarding Affiliation, Syllabus, Assessment and Certification

Membership of BDASA is renewable annually and falls into two categories:-

    1. SOCIAL- a member who has elected not to undergo teacher training via the BDASA Syllabus.
    2. CERTIFIED - a member who is either undergoing BDASA teacher training or who has completed her training to Licenciate Level.

      THE SYLLABUS
This syllabus was pioneered by Shalimar Harrison and has, over the years, undergone many changes and additions to bring it up to par with international standards.

Essentially a TEACHER TRAINING system, the syllabus also provides a measurement tool for students who wish to stretch themselves or work towards teacher status for themselves.

There are seven student grades and nine teacher grades. Once Licenciate level has been successfully completed, a teacher is considered to be Fully Qualified and will have world recognition via our connection to SADTA.

The syllabus is a skeleton of basic movement which can easily run parallel to the individual styles of existing belly dance teachers.

      ASSESSMENT
Assessments or examinations are performed by BDASA members who have undergone a process of training in this regard.
Student exams consist of appox 1 1/2 hour session with a maximum of 4 candidates.
Teacher exams consist of approx a 2 hour session.
Successful candidates will received detailed assessment sheets, certificates and a medal.

      CERTIFICATES
Certificates will show the level of grade passed are are endorsed by SADTA.

      AN IMPORTANT NOTE:
BDASA is aware that some studio owners require their students to do in-house studio grading. This type of grading or pre-grading may not reflect the name of BDASA or SADTA and it is an offence to attempt to market studio level exams as BDASA recognized.
